The AIIA’s National President Mr John McCarthy AO FAIIA, is meeting with Dr Ken Henry AC today regarding development of the White Paper on Australia in the Asian Century. Dr Henry was asked by the Prime Minister, The Hon Julia Gillard to lead an official taskforce which will execute a comprehensive review of economic and strategic change in Asia and its implications and opportunities for Australia.
The White Paper was announced in late September this year and will consider challenges such as the political and strategic implications of the Asian Century for Australia and the role of effective economic and political regional and global cooperation. The advisory panel, led by Dr Henry, brings together an exceptional array of experience from business, academia and government and will be which will develop analysis and proposals for consideration by the Government.
The White Paper will include an intensive process of consultation with the Australian community, business, academia and international partners. A series of public consultation forums will be held and the process will call for submissions from interested parties. The AIIA is currently working with its branches to prepare a submission for the White Paper. The White Paper on Australia in the Asian Century will be released in mid 2012.
