The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) is proud to announce the national launch of 'Middle Power Dreaming: 2006 -2010', the latest book in its series 'Australia in World Affairs'. Starting in 1950, the series provides a comprehensive record of Australian foreign policy.
'Middle Power Dreaming' reviews the major activities of policymakers and the policy community from 2006 to 2010, years defined by the Howard, Rudd and Gillard governments. This period was also characterised by a marked realignment of global and regional power, as observed in the global financial crisis, disillusionment regarding the so-called war on terror, and the dawn of the Asian century.
This landmark book will be launched by editors James Cotton, Professor of Politics at the University of New South Wales and the Australian Defence Force Academy, and John Ravenhill, Head of the School of Politics and International Relations, Research School of Social Sciences, at the Australian National University.
Dr Cotton will focus on Australia’s key relationship with the United States after President Obama’s visit. Dr Ravenhill will discuss Australia’s exposure to the global economy at a time of international stress, and explain how Australia survived the global financial crisis. AIIA National Executive Director Ms Melissa Conley Tyler will chair the discussion.
The book will be available at the event at a discounted price of A$59.95 for members and A$79.95 for non-members.
