A fast-evolving India is following closely on the heels of China in the ranks of Asia's new powers, extending its economic, political, military and cultural influence across the region, and inspiring confidence in its future.  All this means that Asia is experiencing significant regional and international changes, not least in the relationship between India and Australia.

To explore India’s internal dynamics, its international relations and the future of the Australia-India relationship, we are pleased to present the nation's most senior diplomatic thinker.

Ambassador Lalit Mansingh has served as India’s Foreign Secretary, Ambassador to the United States and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.  He has more than 40 years of extensive international experience in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East; serving as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and High Commissioner in Nigeria, with concurrent accreditation to Benin, Chad and the Cameroons.

Ambassador Mansingh remains deeply engaged with foreign affairs, with a particular focus on conflict resolution, regional security and sustainable development.  He currently holds the positions of the Professor Emeritus at the Foreign Service Institute of India, and is a member of the governing body of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, Development Alternatives and Indian Council for Sustainable Development.  In addition he is the chairman of the FICCI-India US Policy Group, president of the World Cultural Forum (India) and is on the international advisory boards of APCO Worldwide, Washington, and the Bonita International Trust, London.
