Suddenly, the fear of a second GFC is spooking investors around the world.  How will this affect the future economic development of the Pacific region?

Few would be better placed to provide us with the answers than our guest, Gavin Murray, an experienced Australian banker who is the regional head of the International Finance Corporation (the private sector arm of the World Bank).

The IFC helps companies and financial institutions in emerging markets create jobs, generate tax revenues, improve corporate governance and environmental performance, and contribute to their local communities. The goal is to improve lives, especially for the people who most need the benefits of growth.

Have you invested or are thinking of investing in our part of the world?  Gavin will outline the financing goals of the IFC in the Pacific region, discuss how it is providing sustainable private sector development and talk about the future economic outlook in the region.

Gavin Murray became regional manager (Pacific & East Asia) of the IFC in 2009. Before that he spent four years as head of sustainable finance at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ). In this role, Gavin was responsible for implementing a client engagement strategy built on sustainable business value drivers across ANZ’s wholesale and investment banking businesses.

From 2001 to 2004, Gavin was the inaugural director of IFC’s Environment and Social Development Department. Prior to joining IFC in 2001, Gavin worked in the international mining industry including 15 years in regional executive and project management roles across the Asia Pacific region.

In 2008, Gavin was appointed to the CSIRO Sector Advisory Council for Environment and Natural Resources (the CSIRO is Australia’s national science agency and a global leader in scientific and industrial research and development).
