President Obama's envoy to Australia will voice his views on a world where the United States faces an array of big challenges, from conflict and terrorism to financial uncertainty and the rise of new powers.

H.E. Mr Jeffrey L. Bleich was appointed as the 24th Ambassador of the United States to Australia in November, 2009, after serving as Special Counsel to the President.  Previously he was a litigation partner in the San Francisco office of Munger, Tolles and Olson where he was acknowledged as one of the nation's leading lawyers.

Mr Bleich also has a long-standing interest in international law.  After clerking for Judge Howard Holtzmann at the Iran-US Claims Tribunal, and acting as Special Rapporteur to the International Court of Arbitration, he assisted the Special Prosecutor for the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.  He has taught international human rights at Berkeley law school and written and lectured extensively on the International Criminal Court.
