Australia’s relationship with China will arguably be the most important determinant in meeting Australia’s key national interests this century. Former AIIA National Vice President Geoff Miller will moderate an engaging panel discussion exploring Australia-China relations including understanding China’s strategic interests, long term and short term policy directions and Australia’s vital interests over coming decades.
Speakers will be Dr Malcolm Cook (Program Director - East Asia, Lowy Institute on International Policy), Prof Jocelyn Chey (Honorary Professor, University of Sydney), Ms Margaret Jack (former executive director of Shell China and Hong Kong and current advisor to a number of energy-related projects) and Ms Cathryn Hlavka (Director, Confucius Institute, UNSW).
China Now was the opening session of the recent National Presidents' Day of the AIIA in Brisbane on October 19. In the wake of the debate of China’s new Five Year Plan by the Central Committee of the Communist Party, NSW president Colin Chapman discusses the outlook with Colleen Ryan, China editor of the Australian Financial Review.
