A conversation with David MacLennan, DFAT's Man in Perth
David MacLennan's term as Head of the WA State Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs finishes soon - he has been posted as Head of the Political section of the Australian High Commission in London. His last months have been heavily preoccupied with arrangements for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and associated events taking place later in October. Working in an internationally focussed state such as WA has been challenging, and David has done the job well. We appreciate very much that we has worked very closely with us at the AIIA.
In a conversation with Branch President Sue Boyd, David will talk about CHOGM, DFAT's work in WA and the foreign policy challenges facing Australia.
About the Speaker:
Mr MacLennan joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1999. He has served as DFAT APEC Exchange Officer in the Peruvian MInistry of Foreign Affairs (2008), Deputy Head of Mission in Mexico City (2005-2007) and as a Civilian Peace Monitor in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea (2001). Previous placements in Canberra include in the Office of the Minister for Trade and in the Trade Finance Section.
Before joining the Department, Mr MacLennan worked in the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. He holds a Master of Management degree from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Australia. He speaks Spanish. Mr MacLennan is married and has one daughter.
